To Charlie Battery website team,

question: I'd sent October '17 an interesting picture with a short story of Albert Faber, one of the batteries groundskeeper in the 70th, and a unknown cook from the battery standing on a potatoe field to the websites mailadress (the gmail-adress)... but got no response. Did it changed? Annother adress in charge? Looking forward for some feedback. Thanks :)

Served with the first "Package" that started (as we all did) at Ft. Bliss, we were destined to go to Germany, we heard, didn't know where, (didn't know anything, really) we took the required training, went to White Sands and in spite of ourselves, got close enough to a target that they scored it a Hit. AJAX days
we met pretty much as a group after our passes were up at McGuire AFB for a (in those days) quick ride to the airbase in Frankfurt, rejoined our duffel bags and a deuce and a half trip to Karlsruhe (Gerzewski Barracks to meet the troops of the 552nd AAA (90mm gun) who were not overjoyed to see these "missile kids" come in to disband their outfit and become the 3rd Missile Btn of the 73rd, some joined us, most went on to other jobs and posts.
But all of us stayed for a short while at Gerzewski, My Battery "Bravo" went to Kornwestheim, Wilkin Barracks which had recently been refurbed waiting for us, we were supposed to be a mobile outfit in the 7th Army, probably not exactly the fine definition of mobile, but. 60 years ago, memory has mellowed, times have changed, not many of the original group left, miss them all.

Hi!, I was stationed at A/5/1 Herc battery Wackerheim from 1968-1971. I really liked Germany, and had a great time. I was in Herc from 1965-1974 till the sites were closed. I went into Chaparral (short range ADA) with the 25th Infantry Division. Boy what a wake up call, we had to run 3 miles every morning. Too much fun.

I served with D Btry 3/84 from 2/70 until 2/73 and spent many weeks and months over those 3 years performing what we called CAS at Kleingartach. Our system was Pershing, which followed Redstone. This site is an amazing piece of history and it was great to see some of the towns around Kleingartach as well as the site itself. When we were using the site it was id pretty poor repair, The buildings you used for your missiles were used as sleeping quarters for the platoons that had missiles mated with warheads (2 per pad). Everything of value had been stripped away. We loved sending a truck into Stetten to pick up schnitzel sandwiches, potato salad and spaetzle. Thanks for the memories

Ahhh,Hardheim,...C-3-71st. We were all kids then, not a care or concern in the world. I was there from Aug.'77 to June '80. I was a cook, and I was a crazy S.O.B. My nic-name among my German friend's was "the Buzzard"
I had '11' Articule 15's typed up against me, 8 torn up by the C.O.'s at the time, Capt. Jeffery Knapp, then Capt. Larry Manning. Tough to get in to work for 05:30 when your out partying till 4 a.m. Went in a E-2, made it to Spec 4 came out a E-1 !!
Lots of beers down town, outside at the'fountain'. Gone now.
Guess what ? I'm headed back to Hardheim in late Sept. of 2018 !!!! First a stop at the Munich Oktober Fest (can't believe I didn't go when I was there) then 3 day's in Hardheim 40 years later ! I'll be thinking of all the guy's that trudged up that hill from downtown.
Some of the names I remember ; Hans 'Wiz' Wichmann- XO's clerk, Vic Bonini (deceased) tower rat, Ric Solai,Dennis Williams,..my roommate downtown. (Dennis, if I ever see you again I owe you a * * *-whoopin) Mike Bell-commo room, C.J. and Red,-motorpool Mike Monroe-IFC (he's coming with me on this trip, we've stayed in touch all these years-neat huh !)
I had it made, cook's had no room inspection's (why ?)Cook's didn't have to fall out every morning for formation. (why ?) Crazy times for me. We also took in the first females to be stationed there. Oh Steffie !
Anybody remember me ? ..contact me by my email I'll be glad to fill you in on everyone I've kept in touch with.
